After more than a decade of teaching the oud and sharing my knowledge primarily in private settings, I am joining the Basel Music School at the Musikakademie as a permanent oud teacher starting in August 2025.
As an oud teacher, I approach my work as a dialogue — a shared space for exploration — rather than as the representation of a single style or national tradition. The oud has a far-reaching history, appearing in many cultures from North Africa and the Middle East to the Mediterranean region. This diversity is mirrored in the backgrounds of my students, whose roots include countries such as Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Greece, Somalia, Egypt, Armenia, Hungary, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. My aim is not only to teach the technical and musical foundations of oud playing, but also to support each student in discovering and deepening their own cultural grounding and musical voice.
